What is Price Realization?

Price realization is the ratio of what customers actually pay (realized ARPA) to what the rate card says they should pay (list ARPA), expressed as a percentage. A realization rate below 100% represents value surrendered through discounts, credits, or commercial concessions.

Formula

Price realization = realized ARPA / list ARPA × 100

Worked example

Using the default example inputs (List ARPA (monthly): $1,200; Realized ARPA (monthly): $960.00), Price Realization equals 80% (Price realization). Strong price realization indicates pricing power and discounting discipline. Review trends as you move up-market or add tiers.

What good looks like

Healthy SaaS companies typically realize 80 to 95% of list price. Consistent realization below 80% usually signals that list prices are set aspirationally rather than anchored to value, or that sales has been trained to lead with discount.

Directional guidance only, not a cohort benchmark claim. Premium cohort bands appear when sample thresholds are met for your profile.

FAQ

What is Price Realization?
Price realization is the ratio of what customers actually pay (realized ARPA) to what the rate card says they should pay (list ARPA), expressed as a percentage. A realization rate below 100% represents value surrendered through discounts, credits, or commercial concessions.
What is the Price Realization formula?
Price realization = realized ARPA / list ARPA × 100
Should I use ARR or MRR as the base?
Either works as long as you use the same period definition for both list and realized. Monthly ARPA is easier for most teams because it matches how contracts are quoted.
Does this account for multi-year deals?
Not directly. Multi-year discounts appear in realized ARPA but may not be visible in monthly realized figures if revenue is recognized evenly. Normalize contracts to monthly before comparing.
How does price realization relate to the discount waterfall?
Price realization is the percentage outcome; the discount waterfall shows the dollar bridge from list to realized. Use both to communicate the cost of discounting in board materials.
